This week Year 5 visited Hele's School to take part in a project alongside Year 9 children. Over the course of this term, all Year 9 students at Hele’s School have been working with Humanutopia on their ’Heroes Journey’. This has involved a series of workshops where they have addressed many personal and social barriers to learning with a view to changing the attitudes and behaviours of themselves and others, as well as raising their aspirations.

Hele's students welcome the opportunity to test out their coaching and mentoring skills with Y5 students from Trust primary schools. Specially trained students run a highly interactive and vibrant day which aims to challenge Year 5 students to think about solutions to problems common to daily life in primary schools. Through this work, Y9 students also hope to be able to break down any perceived barriers Year 5s may have about going to secondary school, as well as leaving them feeling empowered, ready to lead and ‘be the change’ they wish to see in their schools and communities.
